What type of leather(s)  does  Mudhouse  use for  making products? 

We use a combination of natural grained leathers with a wide range of finishes for each product, depending on its functionality and the aesthetics we strive to achieve. We only use leathers from bovine hide ( HSN code 4107)   the use of  which is permitted by Indian law.   

The leather we use are selected from primarily vegetable tanned hides. Natural blemishes are maintained since we believe they add to the natural look and feel of good leather. In each of our product, we use a combination of thick, thin, smooth or heavy grained leathers in order to get the best combination of aesthetics and functionality. 

What are the advantages and disadvantages of handcrafting? 

Handcrafting is an age old process which gives the product superior aesthetics and a distinct rugged look.  Handcrafting of footwear makes it feasible for us to alter the shape of the footwear to suit the contours of the wearer's foot thus ensuring better fit and  make it visually more pleasing.  Handcrafting allows the crafter to access every nook of the product and ensure that stitching comes exactly where the load gets distributed.  For handcrafting we can use threads that are far thicker than feasible for machined product thus ensuring greater load bearing capacity and longer life.   Handcrafting allows for making small batch sizes of each design thus affording the customer a certain amount of uniqueness. Handcrafted products can be repaired using a simpler process and with less equipment, thus making them reuse friendly. Handcrafted products result in lesser wastage of leather.

However handcrafting requires a significantly higher amount of human labour and therefore costs significantly higher than a machine crafted product. 

Can the  Mudhouse products be repaired?

Worn out products can be refurbished -  By resoling sandals and restitching bags. We will first assess the cost of repair and intimate you when an item is sent to us.  The customer has to bear the cost of repair as well as the cost of shipping both ways. We reserve the right to refuse repair if an item is mutilated beyond reasonable repair or repair is infeasible due to other reasons.

Are the pictures on the Mudhouse web store the actual product that will be shipped to me? 

The pictures on the web store are of the actual products  made by us. However they may belong to a different batch and therefore the colours and texture may have slight variation depending on the batch of the leather. If you have concern, you can  request us to send you an actual picture of the product before shipping and we will be happy to oblige.
